At Sunridge Ski Area, it’s unwise to eat at the picnic table. It’s embedded in the ground at an angle, and snowboarders frequently skid across it before launching themselves into the air. The table is one small part of Sunridge’s terrain park—a gathering of obstacles, ramps, and railings that facilitate tricks and airtime. Although these hurdles are intended for experienced athletes, the park’s surroundings emphasize accessibility: several hills play host to skiers of all skill levels.

Sunridge Ski Area owes much of its snow not to the weather, but to human ingenuity. Its TechnoAlpin automatic fan guns spread layer after layer of powder across 13 runs, enabling an early start to the winter season. The slopes range in difficulty from green beginners’ courses to black-diamond trails—advanced paths named for their steep grades and affinity for Marilyn Manson. Chairlifts, carpet lifts, and rope tows transport adventurers to their choice peaks, where they can drink in panoramic views of Edmonton before launching into a swift descent.

Just as the runs prioritize user friendliness, Sunridge’s instructors cater their skiing and snowboarding lessons to both first-timers and experts. They guide students aged 4 and older during weekly or twice-weekly meetings, maintaining small class sizes so that they can devote personal attention to each pupil and added attention to the ones with three feet.
