When Carrie Langevin was a girl, she’d accompany her grandmother on berry- and plant-gathering missions, following close behind as her grandma explained the power behind each fruit, oil, and stem. When Carrie and her relatives would come down with pink eye or a sore throat, their botanically minded grandmother would brew healing teas and cure the family with time-tested medicinal plants.

Carrie’s grandmother wasn’t the family’s first healer. On her website, Carrie says she “comes from a long line of Cree Medicine women.” As owner of Mother Earth Essentials, she builds on that background, channeling her Aboriginal culture into a line of artisanal products. Those include essential oils, redolent with the scents of peppermint and cedar balsam; handmade soaps and soy candles, with fragrances like wildrose with cranberry; and salves, body washes, mineral bath salts, and dozens of other items, each of which bring Carrie’s longstanding passion for botanical health into customers’ own homes.
