Cline River Heliport, off Hwy. 11 (David Thompson Highway), W of Rocky Mountain House, E of Hwy. 93
Clearwater County, Alberta

After lifting off from the Cline River Heliport, the helicopter flies over the valley at altitudes of up to 9,000 feet. Passengers can take in views of the Cline Pass and Cline Glacier, and ogle the 900-foot falls spilling out of Michelle Lakes. The pilot will land in the wilderness and lead passengers on a hike along the banks of a glacier-fed stream to a 40-foot waterfall. Snowshoes will be provided in the rare event of snow.

Icefield Helicopter Tours has a second base, too, located near Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino. From here, the helicopter sails over Kananaskis Country with views of Barrier Lake, the Three Sisters peaks, the Bow River, and Mt. Yamnuska. This trip also includes a one-hour stop for hiking or snowshoeing in the wilderness. This Groupon is valid at either location.

Blades humming, the helicopter rises up from the Cline River Heliport and soars away over the valley, crossing skies hung between tall mountain peaks. It might fly above the winding and multicoloured Cline Canyon, following its frozen river, or head toward the Columbia Icefield, where solid ice reaches heights of up to 12,000 feet across 325 square kilometres.

On these sightseeing tours, Icefield Helicopter Tours’ pilots take their craft up to 12,500 feet over landmarks such as the Cline Pass; the Cline, Lion, and Lioness Glaciers; and the twin lakes behind the 900-foot Michelle Lakes Falls. And when they start the tour at their Kananaskis location in Morley, Mt. Yamnuska and Brokenleg Lake are a couple of the sights that cameras might like to zoom in on. Icefield’s pilots can combine these flights with seasonal adventures; during the summer, they land in the wilderness for hiking or horseback riding, and in colder weather they drop passengers off for skiing or snowshoeing. They may also land for wilderness walks and snowshoe hikes through meadow and forest to glacial streams and frozen waterfalls.
