What services does your business offer?

Humble dojo first offers training in Aikido and Aiki Budo, as well as the spiritual philosophy of aikido. At more advanced levels the student is offered, training in military style Taekwondo striking, as well as traditional Japanese weapons training.

What makes your business stand out from the competition?

Sensei Michael is a 5th Dan in Taekwondo, a 5th Dan Kendo, and a 6th Dan in Aikido, he has been in martial arts for over 40 years. His life in martial arts began when he was a young boy in Vietnam , everyday on his way to and from school he would walk by a local military base. On his way home the soldiers would be training in Taekwondo and he would sit at the gate and watch them everyday, until one day an officer walked up to him and began talking with him. The conversation ended with the officer telling Michael that if his mother would give him permission, he could train in Taekwondo with them. Micheal became obsessed with martial arts, and a few years later he started Aikido as wells Taekwondo, and then later began training in Kendo as well.

What was the inspiration to start or run this business?

What do you love most about your job? As Micheal began to master these three arts, he could truely see the inner and outer beauty of Aikido, and today it has become his primary mission to spread it’s beauty. Michael’s Aikido Sensei was the daughter of Sensei Yamaguchi who was a student of O’Sensei. It was the wish of O’Sensei that Aikido be spread across the world, but his students where split into to groups. The Japanese federation who did not honor the wish of O’Sensei and refused to teach Aikido to westerners and who would keep some of the teachings to them self out of fear a student may turn against them, causing the art of Aikido to become diluted, and has been the cause of many people thinking Aikido is useless and does not work in a real fight situation. And then there is the other side, the non Japanese federation that is made up of westerners as well as Japanese, who hold nothing back and share the deepest secrets of Aikido that make the art so effective. Sensei Micheal is of the non Japanese federation and continues the tradition of openness and sharing that which others will not.

What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?

The family like bond all the students share, and how they all stand up to support and protect each other in every day life outside of the dojo.
